मिरचीची भाजी | Mirchichi Bhaji

Ingredients

  • तूर डाळ / तुवर दाल / Pigeon pea (Toor daal)-1 cup
  • िहरवी िमरची / हरी िमर्च / Spicy green chili – 1/4 cup
  • कच्चा टमाटा / कच्चा टमाटर / (Tomatillos) Sour green tomatoes – 2
  • हळद / हल्दी / Turmeric – 1/4 tsp
  • तेल / Oil – 3 tbsp
  • मोहरी / राई / Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • िजरे / जीरा / Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • हींग / Asafoetida – a pinch
  • अद्रक / अदरक / Ginger grated – 1 tsp
  • लसुन / लेहसुन / Garlic grated – 3-4
  • खोब्र / नािरयल / Dry coconut grated – 2 tbsp
  • कांदा / प्याज / Onion – 1 small
  • शेंगदाने / मूंगफल्ली / Peanuts crushed – 2 tbsp
  • कोथंबीर / धिनया पत्ता / Coriander leaves chopped
  • गरम मसाला / Garam Masala – 1 tsp
  • मीठ / Salt – per taste

Cooking

  1. Wash and clean toor daal
  2. Fine chop spicy green chilis, the chopped chilis should be 1/4 of the toor daal
  3. Use tomatillos if you don’t have amabtchuka, chop in to small pieces
  4. Transfer toor daal, green chilis, tomatillos, turmeric, add 1-2 cup water to pressure cook for 3-4 whistles
  5. Once pressure cooker cool down, transfer cooked dal to a bowl.
  6. Whisk to make it smooth, add a cup of water, whisk again
  7. Now heat add oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, a pich of asafetida (hing), mix and saute till mustard splutters
  8. Add grated ginger, grated garlic, saute for 30 sec
  9. Add onion, saute till onion cooks
  10. Add coriander leaves, crushed peanuts, saute for 1 min
  11. Add cooked, whisked daal, mix well
  12. Add water to your liking, mix well, bring to boil
  13. Simmer for 4-5 min
  14. Garnish with coriander leaves and its ready to serve

Tips

  1. Conventionally this bhaji is prepared with Ambatchuka
  2. Use sour green tomatoes (tomatillos) as alternative
  3. Adjut green chili quantity to your liking
  4. Make sure to cook dal completely to get best consistency

How to serve

  1. Serve with Bhakari, Chapati, Rice
