Ingredients Dough

  • गहु पीठ / गेहू आटा / Wheat flour – 1 cup
  • ओवा / अजवायन / Carrom seeds -1/4 tsp
  • मीठ / नमक / Salt – 1/4 tsp
  • तेल / Oil – 1 tsp

Instructions – Making Dough

  1. Take a mixing bowl, add flour, carom seeds, salt, mix everything together
  2. Add water to make dough, use little water at a time and make medium dough
  3. Cover and set aside

Ingredients Stuffing

  • तेल / Oil – 1 tsp
  • मोहरी / राई / Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • जीर / जीरा / Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • मिरची / Green Chili fine cut – 1 tsp
  • कढीपत्ता / Curry leaves cut – 5-6
  • लसुन / लेहसुन / Garlic – 4-5 cloves
  • अदरक / Ginger – 1 tsp
  • हळद / हल्दी / Turmeric – 1/4 tsp
  • तिखट / लाल मिर्च / Chili powder – 1/4 tsp
  • आमचूर / Aamchoor powder – 1/4 tsp
  • बटाटा / आलू / Potato boiled, smashed – 2
  • मीठ / नमक / Salt – as per taste
  • मटर / Green Peas – 2 tbsp

Instructions – Stuffing

  1. Take a pan, heat oil to medium
  2. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds sauté till mustard starts to pop
  3. Add chili, curry leaves sauté for 30 sec
  4. Add garlic, ginger sauté for 30 sec
  5. Add turmeric, chili powder, Aamchoor powder and mix everything well
  6. Add boiled and crushed potato to the pan, mix well
  7. Add salt to taste, mix well
  8. Add green peas and mix well
  9. Cook for 2-3 min, stuffing is ready

Ingredients Daal

  • तेल / Oil – 2 tsp
  • मोहरी / राई / Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • जीर / जीरा / Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • हींग / Asafoetida – a pinch
  • मिरची / Green Chili fine cut – 5-6 pc cut
  • कढीपत्ता / Curry leaves – 8-10
  • लसुन / लेहसुन / Garlic cut fine – 4-5 cloves
  • कांदा / प्याज / Onion chopped – 1
  • टमाटर / Tomato cut – 1
  • हळद / हल्दी / Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
  • तूर दाल / Toor dal cooked – 2 cup
  • मीठ / नमक / Salt – as per taste
  • गुड़ / Jaggery – 1 tsp
  • कोथंबीर / धनिया / Coriander

Instructions – Dal

  1. Take a pan, heat oil to medium
  2. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds sauté till mustard starts to pop
  3. Add asafoetida , green chili, curry leaves, garlic and sauté till garlic 30 sec
  4. Add onion, sauté till onion cooks
  5. Add tomato, sauté till tomato cooks
  6. Add turmeric and mix well
  7. Add cooked toor dal, and mix well
  8. Add salt to taste, mix well
  9. Add jaggery, mix well
  10. Bring dal to boil, garnish with coriander

Instructions Making Chikholi

  1. Knead dough with little oil to make it smooth
  2. Take small portion, roll it flat as chapati
  3. Take a round cutter and cut rolled chapati in small rounds
  1. Take small potato mix place on the round of chapati, cover with another round of chapati on top and seal all sides completely
  1. Repeat for remaining chikholi
  2. Now drop all the chikholi to dal and cook chikholi in dal for 12-15 min on medium heat.
  3. Garnish with coriander
  4. Stuffed dal chikholi is ready!

How to serve

  1. Serve hot!
  2. Top with ghee
